A diesel generator is a power generation device driven by diesel fuel, serving as a commonly used standby and mobile power supply solution in industrial, commercial and civil fields.
It consists of two core components: a diesel engine and an alternator. The diesel engine converts the chemical energy of diesel into mechanical energy, which drives the rotor of the alternator to rotate. The rotating rotor cuts the magnetic lines of force in the stator windings to induce an alternating electromotive force, ultimately realizing electrical energy output. This equipment features high reliability, being adaptable to various harsh working conditions such as high temperature and heavy dust, with stable operation and a long service life; it has fast start-up response, capable of quickly reaching rated power and putting into operation when the power grid is suddenly interrupted; it also has strong power supply independence, without relying on the municipal power grid, and can flexibly meet the power demand of different scenarios.
In terms of applications, diesel generators can be used as emergency standby power supplies for hospitals, data centers, shopping malls and residential buildings, ensuring the continuity of power supply for key equipment and daily electricity use during power outages. They can provide stable power support for remote operation scenarios such as mining areas, oilfields and field construction camps. They are also suitable for special fields with strict requirements on power supply continuity, including communication base stations, transportation hubs and industrial production lines. Meanwhile, they can be mounted on vehicles, ships and trailers to meet the temporary power demand of various mobile operations.
For selection, it is necessary to match a generator set with corresponding capacity according to the total load power, with a reserved power margin of 20%–30% to cope with peak loads; pay attention to fuel efficiency to reduce long-term operation costs; prefer low-noise models in noise-sensitive places such as residential areas and hospitals; if unattended management is required, an automatic transfer switch (ATS) can be equipped to achieve seamless switching with the municipal power supply.
